  • Epic Games to invest in Brazilian game ‘The Path of Calydra’ by Finalboss

Through their 2015-established program ‘Unreal Dev Grants’, Epic Games, the owners of the Unreal Engine, will invest a total of US$ 1 million in 37 projects. The projects hail from different segments, but all of them must use the Unreal Engine 4. ‘The Path of Calydra’, by studio Finalboss, is the only Brazilian game contemplated by this ‘no-strings-attached’ deal.

“This latest round of Unreal Dev Grants underscores the variety of applications for Unreal Engine, with software plugins, VR games, AI-driven educational platforms, and healthcare tools,” Epic Games stated. Chance Ivey, Partnership Manager of Epic Games, said that this new round is their “biggest yet”. The goal of this program is to “give studios a boost to bring their promising working prototypes to market.”

The awards in the Unreal Dev Grants range from US$ 5.000 to US$ 50.000. This ‘no-strings-attached’ investment means teams get to keep their IPs, are free to publish their titles however they want, and have no restrictions or obligations to Epic Games. Whom classifies these grants as ‘free money’.

“The recognition by Epic Games gives our team even more strength, and shows we are on the right path in developing The Path of Calydra,” celebrated Márcio Vivas, owner of Finalboss.

The Path of Calydra, by Finalboss

Finalboss was founded in 2003 and is one of the oldest game developers in Brazil. The Path of Calydra is a 3D Adventure game. The Brazilian studio Finalboss’s latest project puts players in the shoes of Matheus, a suburban city boy who is taken to a fantastic new world by a creature known as Calydra. Its objective is to regain its power, and Matheus realizes he has no other option than to help it. In the hopes he will find his way home.

Each one of the forms taken by Calydra can be used by Matheus to surpass the challenges put before him.
