The moment every eSports fan has been waiting for is finally here. Tomorrow, September 23rd, the 2017 League of Legends World Championship will Begin. The Brazilian champions of Team One are already in China to compete against the best squads on the planet. Until November 4th, the Golden Boys and 15 other teams will fight ferociously for the most coveted eSports title in the world: the Champion’s Trophy and the millionaire pize of US$ 1 million.
Even though Team One is a rather new team in the competitive scenario, it has great chances of finishing the tournament with an outstanding performance, breaking the record established by paiN Gaming in 2015 – precisely the team Team One defeated in the Brazilian finals.
The first match of the Brazilian warriors will already be on the 23rd, against Cloud9 at 3:30 AM, local Brazilian time, and they will face Dire Wolves the same day, at 6:30 AM, due to time zone differences. The next day, Sunday 24th, Team Once faces Cloud9 (at 1AM) and Dire Wolves (at 5AM) for the return matches. Every match will be broadcast live on Riot’s official channels, but the VODs will remain available online for those who won’t be able to watch them so early in the morning.
About the 2017 LoL World Championship
The World Championship occurs as follows: separated in 4 groups, 12 teams (from Brazil, Commonwealth of Independent States, Japan, Latin America South, Latin America North, Oceania, Southeast Asia, Turkey, China [3rd place], Europe [3rd place], Hong Kong/Taiwan/Macao [3rd place] and North America [3rd place]) will face off against each other in Best-of-One matches. This is the Play-In Stage, separated in two rounds: 8 eights proceed to the second round, and the Top 4 teams will advance to the next Stage.
The Group Stage starts with the four teams qualified from the previous Stage meeting with 15 other teams who had earned their spot through their regional competitions. There will be 3 teams from South Korea, two from China, Europe, North America and Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macao, and an extra team from the Wildcard Regions with the highest rank at the Mid-Season Invitational 2017 (which happened in Brazil this year). In practical terms, this means that a second Brazilian team could join the World Championship!
