Smartphones, and mobile devices, in general, represent roughly half of the entire global gaming industry, as we reported here. In Brazil, however, the proportion is even greater: 84.3% of gamers prefer playing on smartphones. The conclusion was published on the Game Brazil Research, produced by renowned institutions Sioux Group, ESPM and Blend New Research.
Among the general population, 75.5% of every Brazilian play some kind of electronic game. And cell phones are the most popular platform by far. Consoles and PCs follow closely together, with 46% and 44.6% respectively. It is interesting to observe that this tendency is repeated throughout the entire world. And more: cellphones are the “favorite platform” of 43.6% of gamers.
Even when they are home they prefer playing on mobile. Among the interviewees, 62% said they prefer smartphones, while 37.5% prefer playing on traditional consoles, and 31.5% on computers.
If we divide it by age groups, most gamers are between 25 and 34 years old (35.2%), but older gamers – between 35 and 54 (32.7%) do figure highly, in second place. In other words, 67.9% of Brazilian gamers are adults, aged between 25 and 54. And, for the third consecutive year, women represent the most gamers, 58.9%, and they too prefer mobile devices.
