The third edition of BIG Festival (Brazil’s Independent Games Festival) came to an end yesterday, July 7th, after 10 days, and it broke the attendance record this year compared to last year, both in the business and exhibition areas, where 50 independent games were presented to everyone that passed by Centro Cultural Sao Paulo, in São Paulo Capital City, the largest and richest city in Brazil.
The Festival counted 12.600 visitors – 4600 more than on the previous edition – 1.600 participants in the business forum and more than 600 scheduled business meetings between Brazilian developers and national and international buyer
“This was the year to consolidate the event,” said Eliana Russi, organizer of BIG.
This year’s edition also marked an expansion of the event to Rio de Janeiro, at Firjan (the Federation of Industries), with lectures and presentations, and with the presence of the game developers who won the Festival’s competition. Among the international attractions, there were David Brevik, creator of Diablo 1, 2 and Marvel Heroes 2015, and Ina Jang, CEO of Smilegate Games, developer of global hit CROSSFIRE.
The winners of BIG Festival include “This War of Mine” by Polish developer 11 bit studios, awarded as Best Game and People’s Choice; Toren, by Brazilian studio Swordtales, won as Brazilian Revelation. At BIG Starter, an initiative for projects still in development, the winners were Relic Hunters Zero, by Rogue Snail Games as Best Entertainment Game, and Fófuuu, by Beltri Studios, which won as Best Educational Game. The two winners of BIG Starter won R$ 20 thousand each.
